Summary/Abstract: In this article — building on an earlier paper of my own (from 2012) — I will examine logikē latreia (λογικὴ λατρεία), a specific formulation regarding the liturgical Anaphora of St. Basil the Great. According to the latest edition of the Liturgy Book, from 2012, the priest or hierarch prays to the Heavenly Father — God the Father — with the following words: “We still offer to You this word-filled and bloodless service [...]. Send Your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these Gifts [...]”. Indeed, this feature, now bloodless in the respective prayer, contrasts sharply with the bloody sacrifices of Jewish and pagan worship.
