Summary/Abstract: Global processes and trends in the last decade have been predetermined by the avalanche-like entry of Industry 4.0, the transition to Industry 5.0 and the ever-increasing role, use and importance of social networks and artificial intelligence in people's everyday lives. All of them have profoundly changed the rules for information protection in a global aspect, and in particular the protection of personal data. The beginning of unprecedented changes in information theory was laid, which in practice fundamentally affected not only the individual, but also every country and humanity as a whole.Meanwhile, we have witnessed large-scale abuses, thefts, forgeries, manipulations and other types of data crimes. All this has turned the protection of information in the digital world into a current and significant problem. As a result, the need arises to create adequate mechanisms and controls for the protection of strategic and important information, which has led to the adoption of a number of guiding regulatory acts in this area in the European Union (EU) in NATO and in Bulgaria. Without a doubt, the protection of personal data in the digital era occupies a key place in the overall management and guarantee of security both nationally and internationally, as well as in the world of corporations.
