Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the settlement names of Ingria that have come into the Votic language from the Izhorian and Finnish languages, either unchanged or adapted into Votic forms. Some two dozen place names came mainly from the villages which had become Russified by the mid-19th century. The first part of the paper deals with Finnic place names of Finnic origin, while the second part contains Russian-influenced Finnic and Russian toponyms. The author’s goals are first, to contribute to the creation of a comprehensive view of the Votic place name heritage; second, to give an overview of the Votic people’s knowledge about the nearby and distant surroundings; and third, to highlight the phonetic and morphological peculiarities that have arisen during adaptation. Mainly phonetic changes of vocalism are a > ä (Vaikülä), -aal > -all (Maali), ie > e ~ ee ~ i ~ ii (Veerdeve ~ Verteve ~ Virdeve ~ Viirtee, etc.), o > õ (Õtsõvõ, Sõmõru) and ää > ä (Rättilä in the first syllable), a > õ (Mannõkka, Soikkolõ), ee > e (Kallivere), o > a (Raikkala), o > õ (Sutõla, Sõmõru, Tammikõntu), ove > ovõ ~ õvõ (Õtsõvõ, Saarovõ ~ Saarõvõ), ö > e (Verteve, etc.), üi > ü (Mättüzi), ellipsis (Korvaizi, Metskülä), loss of ending (Soikkol) and metathesis (Kirjoma, Matiautoi) in the successive syllable. The place name Takavelli, etc. are different, where ä > e is presumably caused by the forgotten meaning of väljä ‘field’. In the city name variant Kingiseppi, the connection with the appellative seppä : sepää is not perceived or it is intended as a plural form. The following changes occur in consonantism: word-initial and intervocalic h > 0 (Aavikko, Mättää), k > č (-čülä, Savimäči), s > z (Korvaizi, Mättüzi, Tarinaizi) and t > d (Veerdeve et al.). There are only two morphological changes in the toponyms discussed: first, the Izhorian and Finnish genitive -n has been replaced with a vowel lengthening (Jarvõõperä, Laukaasuu, Tikaapesä), and second, in a few common nouns, the singular genitive has seemingly been replaced with the plural genitive (Järviiperää, Mettsikülä). Kruuti is the only translated toponym.
