Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to provide a philological analysis of Ból (Pain), a performance installation created by Kinga Chudobińska-Zdunik. The analysis identifies the functions of the work’s embedding in the tradition of religious performances and examines the ways in which these forms are adapted and transformed. The article argues that, unlike in many contemporary performances, where religious references are conveyed primarily through themes, symbols, or characters, it is the dramaturgy and compositional logic of religious performances that play a decisive role in Ból. These include the spatial organization of the event, its ritual-like temporality, its relationship with spectators, and its production of meaning through station-based and processional structures. The illness narrative developed in the performance does not reproduce familiar cultural reflections on finding or abandoning God in the face of suffering. Instead, it mobilizes mechanisms characteristic of religious performances to develop a theatrical language capable of articulating pain. In doing so, the performance reveals the inseparable relationship between religiosity, theatricality, and spectacle, demonstrating how religious forms can be reconfigured as aesthetic and communicative frameworks for representing bodily suffering.
