Summary/Abstract: The theoretical framework of this article is the International Family Strengths Model developed by Nick Stinnett and John DeFrain. Family strengths are a multifaceted concept comprising various attributes, qualities, and strategies that enable families to build overall well-being and life satisfaction. Given the diversity and complexity of stepfamilies – resulting in part from the processes shaping them and the circumstances surrounding these processes – we set out to analyze findings from both Polish and international research involving stepfamilies. The aim of the article is to formulate practical recommendations for patchwork families that support the development of key dimensions of family strengths, such as appreciation and affection, commitment to the family, positive communication, enjoyable time together, spiritual well-being, and successful management of stress and crises. Developing family strengths is a preventive action that enhances family resilience and contributes to increased well-being—regardless of the structural differences present in various types of family systems, including stepfamilies.
