Summary/Abstract: The article explores the history of the Art Gallery in Vidin in the 1960s in the context of the dynamics of artistic life during the period and the need for new exhibition spaces. The establishment of the institution, its opening, the architectural and interior reconstruction of the building, the layout and the gallery’s collection are traced. An essential point is that the gallery provides methodological assistance to other galleries in the region with cataloguing their collections, as well as assisting with the opening of new galleries in the vicinity. The research is based on documents and photographs stored in the State Archives of Vidin, the State Archives Agency, and the Union of Bulgarian Artists, as well as on articles in periodicals that have not been the subject of research so far.
