Metareserves – Atomization and Oscillation of Art

Summary/Abstract: The text explores the Metareserves series of exhibitions (2023–2025) as a curatorial project related to the ideas of metamodernism in contemporary Bulgarian art. A central focus is placed on the concept of “oscillation” understood as a continuous movement between opposites. The theoretical framework of metamodern oscillation is transformed into an opportunity for active artistic practice. The displays include both media traditionally associated with art, such as painting and hand-printed graphics characteristic of modernity, and postmodern performances, installations, digital projects, and experimental forms. In this way, the metamodern “both–neither” approach is embodied. Space is conceived not merely physically, but also as a network of connections, distances, and interactions. The article discusses works by various artists as examples of change, instability, and hybridity.
