Empowerment of People With Disabilities in the Perspective of Socio-Technological Change as a Newly Emerging Research Area

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this text is to present a scientific reflection on the concept of the empowerment of people with disabilities in the perspective of socio-technological change. Understanding the concept of the empowerment in the context of quality of lives of people with disabilities can enable researchers to take a broader view of the wide range of research, educational, social or organizational actions needed to empower people with disabilities in society. The text presents key definitional elements, theoretical aspects and directions for research in the areas of theoretical foundations of the empowerment of persons with disabilities, social phenomena that limit the empowerment of people with disabilities, and social determinants that support the empowerment of people with disabilities.
