Summary/Abstract: As a Member State, Romania must transpose the provisions of Directive (EU) 2024/1712 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 June 2024 amending Directive 2011/36/EU on preventing and combating trafficking in human beings and protecting its victims, until July 15, 2026. Twelve measures have been established to this end. Of these measures, this paper will focus on analysing the need to amend and supplement the provisions of the Romanian Criminal Code, on the one hand, and of Law No. 678/2001 on preventing and combating trafficking in human beings and Law No. 211/2004 on certain measures to ensure the information, support and protection of victims of crime, on the other hand. We consider this approach to be all the more important given that Romanian law enforcement authorities have made significant efforts to protect vulnerable groups against human trafficking, to provide assistance to victims of human trafficking and to prosecute the perpetrators of this crime.
