Business Intelligence and Data Analysis – Platforms, Applications and Significance for Organizations and Higher Education

Summary/Abstract: This publication examines the essence, processes and benefits of Business Intelligence (BI), as well as its significance for organizations and higher education. A comprehensive BI framework is presented, including data collection, processing, analysis and visualization in support of strategic managerial decision-making. The key advantages of BI for organizations are analyzed, among which are improved decision-making, enhanced competitiveness, process optimization and increased revenue. Special attention is given to the application of BI in higher education, where such systems support the monitoring of key indicators, improvement of the educational process, forecasting student intake, and the development of research activities. A comparison between three leading BI platforms – Microsoft Power BI, Tableau and Qlik Sense – is included, based on criteria such as pricing, visualization capabilities, integration, data transformation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) functionalities. The findings emphasize that choosing the most appropriate platform depends on specific organizational needs and technological environments.
