The Names of the Bulgarians in the Bolhrad Region (Southern Bessarabia). Part I: The Identity of the Bessarabian Bulgarians at the Intersection of Language, History, and Migration

Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to an evaluation of the book by T. Braga on the anthroponymy of the village of Tabak (Bolgrad) in Southern Bessarabia. The content and the methodology used in the study are outlined, emphasizing the importance of the presented cor-pus of previously unexplored archival anthroponymic data, the wide historiographical scope and the in-depth description of word-formation processes. The book is a useful study for Bulgarian onomastics, Balkan linguistics and Bulgarian migrations.
