Summary/Abstract: This article analyses the mechanisms of German propaganda dissemination in Romania during the Second World War (1940–1944) and examines the ways in which these messages were perceived by Romanian authorities, the general population, and the German minority. The study focuses on the institutional framework, channels, and dominant themes of Nazi propaganda operating within an allied authoritarian state.Drawing on multiple archival sources—including reports issued by the Special Intelligence Service, police inspectorates, and documents produced by the Ministry of National Propaganda—the article reconstructs the activities of key German propaganda actors, such as the German Legation in Bucharest and the German Ethnic Group in Romania. The paper argues that, despite the extensive institutionalization and systematic dissemination of German propaganda on Romanian territory, its influence on Romanian public opinion remained limited. By contrast, the impact on the German minority proved significantly stronger, revealing both the mechanisms of ideological transfer and the limits of propaganda within the political and social context of wartime Romania.
