Summary/Abstract: The second half of the 19th century in Romania was marked by social and legal debates surrounding abortion. A topic that was unintentionally overlooked, it has begun to receive increasing interest from Romanian researchers. The article aims to analyse the causes of abortion in Bucharest and its surroundings between 1886 and 1900, based on newspapers of the time. Both induced and spontaneous abortions are examined, highlighting the experiences of women from different social classes including elite society, working women, and peasants. The study contributes to understanding how social norms, class, and law intersected in shaping abortion.
