OVERVIEW OF ACTIVITIES ON THE PROJECT: “REVITALIZATION OF THE HISTORICAL SITE – OLD FORTRESS TEOCAK” IN THE PERIOD 2024–2025

Summary/Abstract: The Public Institution Institute for the Protection and Use of Cultural, Historical and Natural Heritage of Tuzla Canton initiated more intensive activities in the autumn of 2023 on the project of research and restoration of one of the few preserved old towns in the area of Tuzla Canton, namely the Old Town of Teocak. This ruined cultural monument, whose origin is associated with the late medieval period, had long been neglected and forgotten by both the professional and wider public, awaiting institutional protection. The project “Revitalization of the historical site – Old Fortress Teocak”, led by the Institute, officially began in 2024 and consists of several phases planned for implementation in the coming years. This paper provides an overview of activities related to the preparation and implementation of the first two phases of the aforementioned project in the period 2024–2025, which included archaeological and conservation-restoration works at the Old Town of Teocak. These works were financed by the Government of Tuzla Canton.
