Summary/Abstract: The subject of this research is the level of preservation of stecak tombstones in the area of Tuzla Canton. Tuzla Canton is located in the northeastern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. With its 13 municipalities, it covers an area of 2,649 km2. The aim of the paper is to determine to what extent stecak tombstones have retained their original form, as well as the degree and type of damage they have sustained. Considering their age, exposure to erosion, and possible physical damage, it can be assumed that the majority are not well preserved. A total of 1,388 stecak tombstones from 177 necropolises were analyzed, classified into basic forms: slab, chest, chest with pedestal, gabled tombstone, gabled tombstone with pedestal, and pillar. Each form was further divided into three categories: poorly preserved, well preserved, and very well preserved stecak. Field research provided data on the preservation of stecak tombstones, which were statistically analyzed, while the geovisualization of the distribution of necropolis preservation was carried out using geographic information systems. The results obtained in this paper will show precisely the level of preservation of stecak tombstones in Tuzla Canton, and will also contribute to improving existing knowledge about stecak tombstones.
