Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses income inequality in Romania compared to that recorded in the member states of the European Union, considering the impact of this phenomenon on social cohesion and economic equity. Income inequality influences access to education, social mobility and economic stability, being essential for understanding the level of development of a country. The study covers the period between 2010-2023 and uses comparative and temporal analysis, based on indicators such as the Gini coefficient, the S80/S20 ratio and the distribution of income by quintiles. Data extracted from "Eurostat", "United Nations" and "World Bank" were used, and the analysis is based on the graphical examination of time series, but also on the evaluation of the Pearson statistical correlation. The results highlight the economic discrepancies between states and the need for effective policies to reduce inequality. Following the analysis, we learn that there is additional space in Romania for reforms to reduce inequalities, which would align us with the other member states of the European Union.
