Summary/Abstract: Short-cycle higher education is a specific form of higher education that has undergone a major transformation over the past 25 years, creating new opportunities for applicants. In our study we investigated the motivations of SCHE students. We analyzed a database based on a self-developed survey (FOSZ 2018) (n = 1,628). The survey was conducted in 23 higher education institutions in Hungary among full-time and part-time students in all fields of short-cycle higher education. When examining the student recruitment base in Hungary, it is clear that short-cycle higher education has opened up opportunities for new target groups of students. The most notable finding in terms of target groups is that we identified a group of students among the applicants (Conscious Builders cluster) who are goal-oriented in their choices, are aware how the training can help them achieve their further education and employment objectives.
