Summary/Abstract: The article describes the structure of a blackout poem, based on material from Russian, European, and American poetry. This is a form of poetry that results from obfuscating words and lines in various texts using a black marker or other similar tools (for example, computer blackening). From a ternary semiotic perspective, the article analyzes the semantic dynamics that arise from the composition of the pre- and post-text, as well as the author’s attitude towards the principles of obscuring text. Additionally, the article explores the effects of syntactic juxtaposition between the verbal and visual aspects of blackout poetry. Finally, it reveals the pragmatic aspects of this form, including the features of re-creating the original text in the reader’s mind and their receptive trajectories when the text is completely inaccessible.
