Summary/Abstract: The aim of the research is to examine early childhood parental investments in relation to maternal educational background and mobility. The period of early investment examined is the first three years of life, and the tools of investment include parental time and financial investments, namely developmental childcare activities and paid services. Data are taken from the longitudinal database of the Cohort ’18 Hungarian Birth Cohort Study. The research method involves univariate and bivariate descriptive statistics. Based on the results, parental investments that promote early child development vary according to the mother’s level of education and increase with the level of education. The distribution of time and financial investments by maternal education levels shows greater differences in time investments at the lower educational categories and in financial investments at the higher educational categories. Differences based on the mother’s intergenerational educational mobility are less identifiable, and the hierarchical differences in educational levels have a more significant influence on the investment averages than the direction of mobility.
