Summary/Abstract: Intergovernmental coordination in the electoral field is crucial for maintaining the integrity, trans-parency, and smooth organization of electoral processes across different jurisdictions, particularlywithin a union like the European Union (EU). This coordination is essential not only among nationalinstitutions directly related to elections but also among broader government and civil society bodies. It ensures that the collaboration within a country’s institutions and across national borders is effec-tive and cohesive. Such coordination reflects the commitment of national institutions to work to-gether, both internally and with counterparts in other countries, to uphold shared democratic prin-ciples.The issues related to cooperation in the electoral field that are being examined are equally relevantin the context of referendums. The principles of inter-institutional collaboration, which are crucialfor ensuring transparent, fair, and well-organized elections, apply just as strongly to the conduct ofreferendums. The institutional cooperation helps to ensure that referendums are conducted withthe same level of integrity and adherence to democratic standards as regular elections.
