Summary/Abstract: This article analyses Khlebnikov’s experiments in word formation involving neologisms with the *mir (‘peace’ and ‘world’) component, which appear with exceptional frequency in his works. The study considers various approaches to the etymology of the name Velimir, offering an alternative interpretation as a compound whose distinctive feature is the initial position of the verbal component in the imperative form. This grammatical feature highlights the dual function of the name, which is both agentive and causative, and heuristic. This interpretation reflects Khlebnikov’s broader poetic project, in which he presents himself as both a name-giver and a heuristic interpreter of the name. The article classifies mirbased formations according to their semantic and pragmatic specificity. The following groups emerge: “Create-mir”, which expresses transformation and intervention; “All-mir”, which denotes universal unity; “I-mir”, which emphasises anthropomorphisation; “Textmir”, which points to the metalinguistic structuring of the world; and “Measure-mir”, which links mir to notions of balance and standard. This classification reveals a wide spectrum of new meanings associated with the word mir in Khlebnikov’s poetics.
