Summary/Abstract: For the first time, the concept of a small homeland was formulated and introduced in Russian legal science. The main factors that shape it were identified. Its incorporation into the legal system of modern Russia was examined. Special attention was given to its place and role in Russian legal doctrine (primarily in the theories of state and law and constitutionalism), along with its unique theoretical and practical potential to enrich the tools of legal regulation and law enforcement in the context of problems of Russian federalism, local self-government, statehood, traditional spiritual and moral values, and other related areas. A definition of a small homeland, as a legal notion, was proposed, and its constituent characteristics were determined. The results suggest that the concept of a small homeland, developed by Russian sociologists, can only be partially accepted by modern Russian jurisprudence, since it needs a number of essential modifications in its legal dimension. Therefore, the current version of the Constitution of the Russian Federation should be supplemented to include specific norms related to small homelands, which could become a starting point for further improvement of Russian legislation on this issue.
