Summary/Abstract: The article examines the conceptual frameworks of two 1920s periodicals — the Russian and Latvian Left Fronts — in a comparative aspect. This approach allows the author to refute contemporary criticisms regarding the derivative or unoriginal nature of KREF (the Latvian Left Front) and to highlight the significance of the Russian avant-garde experience in shaping the journal’s concept as an educational platform for the “new writer”. Attention is paid to the points of convergence between the creative practices of the Latvian Left Front members and Sergei Tretyakov, as well as the reception of his artistic ideas, genre-specific and stylistic solutions within the Latvian “Chinese text”.
