Summary/Abstract: The article examines the principles of the new Soviet cinema developed by Sergei Tretyakov in the 1920s, with an emphasis on real life and the use of documentary sources. In the film “Eliso”, historical events and the romantic plot are subordinated to a social and political line, and the characters are portrayed as active participants in public life. The main heroine, Eliso, is guided by reason and prioritizes collective interests over personal ones, reflecting the supremacy of the social over the individual. The film depicts national repressions, collective labor, and the everyday life of the peoples of the Caucasus, creating the effect of “cinema-fact”. Tretyakov combines form and content to enhance ideological and collective impact. “Eliso” serves as an example of the realization of his concept of cinema as a tool for shaping public consciousness, and in doing so, Tretyakov managed to lay the foundation for the further development of the new Soviet cinema.
