Summary/Abstract: The article suggests possible directions for more extensive research on early modernPolish documentation of the creative process. Above all, I focus on two issues: whatcan we say about creative process chronology and the origins of Polish conventionsof text creation in the late Middle Ages and the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. What constitutes the starting point for my reflections is the fifteenth-century Kazaniaaugustiańskie (Augustian Sermons) written by an anonymous Basilian monk and AdamStanisław Naruszewicz’s eighteenth-century revisions of Historya narodu polskiego(History of the Polish Nation). The selection of texts proves significant: separatedby three hundred years of text-creating developments, the manuscripts come fromantipodes of the early modern period. Despite the fact these were created in differentenvironments and represent different literary genres, the two texts share severalinteresting characteristics, which I highlight by comparing their annotating endeavors.I supplement the juxtaposition of selected technical aspects with seventeenth-centuryexamples, which will allow for considering the issue in a broader historical context.Preliminary research suggests two essential conclusions. On the one hand, the authorsmost likely drew from common scriptorial tradition, dating back to technical symbolsused already in antiquity. On the other hand, the precise sources of the practices andchannels of their communication remain unknown.
