Summary/Abstract: The article reflects on comparative cultural studies’ tasks after the Russian invasionof Ukraine in 2022. The starting point involves an analysis of the book A Ukrainian Dictionaryof War by Ostap Slyvynsky as an example of a collective record of wartime experienceand the process of “translating” traumatic reality. The author interprets the creationof this volume as a practice of ethical listening and shared responsibility, indicating thatcomparative studies should participate in translating experiences between languagesand cultures. Therefore, new comparative studies become a form of engaged humanitiesthat aim to co-create the world through practices of interpretation, dialogue, andresponsibility.
