Summary/Abstract: The article reconstructs the fragmentary genealogy of gender and queer studies’institutionalization in Poland after 1989. The author analyzes the establishment of bothgender and queer studies through archives of conferences, publications, studentassociations, and the memoirs of those participating in these processes. The textemphasizes the significance of support networks, cooperation between academia andactivism, and translation practices in the transfer of feminist and queer theories. Moreover, the author discusses the (self-)criticism of both fields’ institutionalization concerning, among other matters, the Western-centrism, the academia’s neoliberalization, and themarginalization of particular perspectives. As a result, the article offers an approach to thehistory of these studies as a genealogy of engaged pedagogy and knowledge productionassociated with social practice.
