Summary/Abstract: The article presents the theses and ways of practicing the increasingly popular citizenscience in the context of its potential connections with modern humanities. Determiningthe university’s third mission of cooperation with the broader society in accordance withthe market logic of innovation and profit, the neoliberal conditions of modern academiaprovide an important context for the analyses presented in the article. The authorargues that while citizen science emerged primarily in the natural sciences, focusedon the climate and environmental crisis, it can just as well thrive within the humanities.Researchers more frequently implement modern humanities projects in collaborationwith various social partners, designing possible formats of the humanities in the civictrend. The author claims that the civic orientation of the humanities enhances theirvisibility and social relevance, highlighting the change observed in knowledge-generatingprocesses that become increasingly inclusive and open to knowledge, experiences and, social micropractices. More broadly, drawing on conceptual assumptions and empiricalresearch findings conducted by an interdisciplinary team as part of the Social Circulationof Knowledge in Academic Humanities Practices project, the author demonstrates howthinking about the directions and flows of knowledge – which appear as circular andmultidirectional – changes in the context of the civic humanities project, underminingthe model of knowledge flow, functioning within the realm of science, as a transfer fromthe academia to the outside world.
