Summary/Abstract: Miglena Tzenova’s large-scale monographic work crowns the author’s multi-year path in the study of Chinese musical culture, including the Chinese dramatic game with music, for which the term “opera” was adopted as a European counterpart. The book examines the reception of this specific artistic phenomenon in Bulgaria – its reflection in the mirror of the very distant spatial and cultural Bulgarian perceptual environment. Thus, the research unfolds in both the field of reception theory in the arts and the thematic field of cultural translation. To bring out the problematics, Miglena Tzenova works with large arrays of primary sources in Chinese and Bulgarian and, in chronological order, draws the curve of the Chinese productions presented in Bulgaria – works, performers, companies.
