Summary/Abstract: Procedural or generative algorithmic modeling is a visual technique made possible by the development of node-based software systems and tools such as HoudiniFX, Grasshopper for Rhinoceros 3D, Cinema 4D, Blender, and others. It is an alternative to the familiar polygonal and surface modeling techniques, as well as to fractal modeling, which relies on normal map transformations of the terrain and shape relationships. Procedural modeling plays a fundamental role in both design and form-making as well as in visual aesthetics, thanks to its capacity for plastic variability and structural adaptation to surface and volume, thereby adaptively altering its composition and character. It is used in design, film, architecture, and digital art
