Summary/Abstract: The scientific report examines the path of the Republic of Bulgaria's accession to the European Union. The European context of this process is examined. The national foundation of the country is presented and analysed. EU membership is defined as a choice of civilizational affiliation for the elite and citizens. The accession process is summarized in a brief chronology, outlining its main stages. Conclusions are formulated about the significance of this membership in relation to the country's orientation towards Western civilization
