Summary/Abstract: The report examines history education as a factor influencing public attitudes, political culture in the countries and interstate relations in the context of the enlargement of the European Union. It argues that the content and manner of teaching history should be taken into account as an essential criterion in assessing readiness for membership, since the historical narrative can be used as a tool of state propaganda and the formation of persistent hostile attitudes. It analyses the potential risks to the internal stability of the EU in the event of the accession of countries with conflicting historical interpretations and proposes guidelines for the inclusion of educational standards in the enlargement process
