Summary/Abstract: In 2005, Jesper Hoffmeyer helped organize the Copenhagen Bateson Symposium, which produced the edited volume A Legacy for Living Systems: Gregory Bateson as Precursor to Biosemiotics. Jesper Hoffmeyer’s own contribution to this conference was a paper entitled “From Thing to Relation: On Bateson’s Bioanthropology”, and near the end of this paper Hoffmeyer makes the above intriguing remark.
