Summary/Abstract: The book of nature, according to Jesper Hoffmeyer, can be read in more or less the same way as we read a poem, a play or a literary novel. If art is defined through its redundancy of meaning, then nature is doubtless a work of art. It conveys far more information than anyone can assimilate or make meaningful use of. This is why we still write poetry, but it is also the reason why evolution is openended and never ending.
