Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the methodology of digital scholarly editing of historical sources, using the project Monumenta Vaticana res gestas Polonicas illustrantia as a case study. The authors highlight the differences between traditional and digital editing, emphasizing the advantages of data modeling, interactivity, and the potential for both quantitative and qualitative analysis offered by digital editions. These editions enable the presentation of full source texts, their contextualization, and integration with external historical knowledge. The project employs TEI XML and RDF standards, allowing for advanced data search and visualization. The authors stress that digital editions are not only research tools but also independent scholarly works. A digital editor must analyze sources much more deeply than a traditional one, modeling both their content and historical context.
