Summary/Abstract: The authors state that insurance policy regulations in agricultural areas in Poland are insufficient due to their fragmentation and do not take changes occurring in the environment into account to the expected extent. The article includes proposed directions for the necessary changes. It introduces the concept of climate risk and characterises compulsory insurance for agricultural buildings and crops. It also discusses voluntary agricultural insurance and other systems for compensating for the effects of climate risks. In conclusions it was found that there is a lack of comprehensive state policy and that the insurance coverage obligation is poorly functioning. The authors propose linking state aid with prior crop insurance, developing innovative insurance programmes and allocating a portion of premiums paid to risk prevention or mitigation.
