Summary/Abstract: In recent decades, the inclusion of language varieties in foreign language teaching has gained increasing importance. This article aims to advocate for the insertion of dialectal or geolectal variation in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language. To this end, its curricular relevance is justified through a review of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and the Curriculum Plan of the Instituto Cervantes. Subsequently, a bibliography of various works on the presence of dialectal variation in the ELE classroom is provided, organized by approaches and thematic lines. The proliferation of studies on the subject suggests that including diatopic variation in the classroom can help students appreciate the diversity of Spanish, promote respect for different linguistic varieties, and contribute to combating linguistic and cultural prejudices and stereotypes.
