Summary/Abstract: : In the debate on reforming the judicial system in Bulgaria, the thesis is often advanced that the thorough cleansing of the judiciary, known as "vetting," is impossible without convening a Grand National Assembly or introducing radical amendments to the Constitution. This article offers an alternative interpretation: the re-selection of magistrates in Bulgaria is fully applicable and legitimate through a rethinking and upgrading of the existing appraisal procedure, without affecting the "core" of the constitutional framework.
