Summary/Abstract: The article examines how the Carnation Revolution was covered in the Romanian communist press, with a focus on the Scânteia newspaper. It highlights the historically limited relationship between Portugal and Romania, shaped by political and diplomatic factors. Official relations were restored only after the Carnation Revolution, culminating in Nicolae Ceauşescu’s visit to Portugal in 1975. Historical research on the connections between the two countries emphasizes the idea of Latinity as a cultural bond. Within the Cold War context, Scânteia’s coverage of the Carnation Revolution reflected the ideological stance of the Romanian regime, emphasizing Portugal’s political transition and its impact on African independence movements. The newspaper reported on the fall of the Caetano government, the actions of António de Spínola, and the involvement of leaders such as Mário Soares and Álvaro Cunhal. The Romanian press underscored the importance of Portugal’s changes for independence movements in Angola and Mozambique. Scânteia also referenced Nicolae Ceauşescu’s visit to Brazilalong with his foreign policy statements.
