Summary/Abstract: The poetic work of Veselko Koroman has been a recent poetic phenomenon in modern Croatian poetry. What makes him exceptional is the language which shapes his literary expression, subtly integrating semantic discourse into it. Classed and compared with postmodernist writers, Koroman skillfully takes a step back and builds his unique literary identity. His language requires decoding and a closer relationship with the reader, but he also refines it with lyrical sections. In the time of political dictate, when Koroman created the most and when literature survived under the blessing of politics, religious elements were sought in his poetry in order to finally remove him from the literary stage. That is why Koroman remains in his own linguistic expression, searching for himself and the world around him. It was only in free Croatia that he freely spoke about his relationship with transcendent existence and published the collection “Stariji od vremena”. It is a kind of poetic decalogue in which he responds to the Ten Commandments through the titles of the cycle. He expresses his spiritual dimension through a sincere, self-confessive poetic act, so his anima touches the reader in an impressive and emotional way. With this collection, Koroman makes an important contribution to Croatian Catholic literature.
