Summary/Abstract: The task of this paper is to conduct a comprehensive metrical analysis of the first work of Serbian literature composed in hexameters, the poem “On the Occasion of Death of the Immortal Jovan Rajićˮ by Atanasije Stojković. The introductory section presents all the assessments made in the literary public regarding the emergence of the first Serbian hexameter and the versification on which it is based. After a brief examination of the language peculiarities of the poem, whose foundation is in Church Slavonic but with Serbian and Russian lexical and morphological elements, a thorough metrical analysis of the poem is undertaken. Engaging in debate with other contemporary researchers, the authors strive to demonstrate which verses do not adhere to the metrical pattern of the hexameter, while also examining specific metrical phenomena.
