Summary/Abstract: This article presents the results of a descriptive-analytical qualitative study that aims to reflect on the initial teacher training processes in Higher Institutes of Educational Sciences (ISCED) in Angola, with emphasis on the experience of the ISCED in Benguela. The research is based on the most recent legal frameworks – the Basic Law of the Education System (Law No. 32/20, of August 12), Presidential Decree No. 273/20, of October 21, and the Regulation of Supervised Professional Internship – to analyze the paths and challenges of teacher professionalization in higher education. The research was based on document analysis and systematic observation of training practices, targeting trainers and students of undergraduate courses for general education. It is argued that the introduction of the Supervised Professional Internship as a mandatory component of the curriculum constitutes a significant step towards professionalization, promoting training anchored in reflective practice. This study proposes overcoming the traditional, transmission-based model by adopting a constructivist paradigm that values the development of professional skills and the alternation between theory and practice. Training based on collaboration, research, and integration among the formative actors (teachers, tutors, internship institutions, and students) is identified as an essential condition for building a critical, reflective, and autonomous teaching identity. The study concludes that the reformulation of the pedagogical and organizational structures of higher education institutions is urgent to align teacher training with the real needs of the Angolan educational system.
