Summary/Abstract: The article concerns the semantic development of the word talent in Polish dialects. This development on dialects was much more complex than in standard language. Primary sources of material are: KartSGP PAN, KartSGOWM, KartSGŚ and KorSpis. As many as eight meanings other than in the history of standard Polish have been revealed in the dialect resources, which can be divided into three groups: I. 'willingness, desire', 'occupation, profession', 'knowledge of witchcraft', 'one's activity, one's achievements'; II. 'happiness, good fortune, success in life', 'someone or something that or which provides pleasure'; III. 'advice, guidance, caution', 'the will of forces beyond the will of man; God's plan, the will of God'. Each of these meanings can be derived from the biblical Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25: 14-30), the allegorical reading of which has led (not only in Polish) to a basic metaphorical meaning: 'ability, aptitude, predisposition for something'.
