Disgust and its metaphorical images in language (based on lexicographic and corpus data)

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to reconstruct the semantic structure of disgust in language. The research procedure is conducted according to the methods of cultural linguistics, with particular emphasis on linguistic ways of conceptualizing the feeling. The material basis for the study consists of headword articles in selected dictionaries of the Polish language and collocations present in NKJP. Metaphorical ways of depicting disgust (the subject of the feeling, the feeling of its perpetrator, the causes) are served by various linguistic exponents, which are obviously limited to the essential data necessary in dictionaries and expanded in the corpus. In dictionaries, lexicographers do not dazzle users or readers with "shocking" images of disgust. Corpus collocations generally do not have this character. The articlecan be a starting point for the analysis of various cultural texts.
