Summary/Abstract: This paper analyses the results of a survey completed 2020-2023 by students of practical linguistics and copywriting on the use of dictionaries and their lexicographical awareness. Respondents most often seek information on spelling and meaning and less often on the correctness of forms, variety and contexts of use. They use primarily orthographic, synonyms, and bilingual dictionaries, less frequently general, orthoepic, and dictionaries of foreign words. Only 3% of the respondents know the authors of their dictionaries, however they are often misidentified. More than half of the students interviewed did not have classes at school devoted to using dictionaries. This correlates with the students' assessment of their lexicographical competence, with half reporting that their skills in using dictionaries are basic, while 27% use them intuitively. The results were compared with other studies: Żmigrodzki et al. 2005; Lisiecka-Czop 2015; European Survey on Dictionary Use (Kosem et al. 2019).
