Summary/Abstract: This year marks 1700 years since the First Ecumenical Council held in 325 in the city of Nicaea in the province of Bithynia in Asia Minor, in northwestern Anatolia, today the city of Iznik in Turkey. Convened by Emperor Constantine the Great (306-337), the Council represents the gathering of bishops from the 4th century throughout the Christian world, gathered to debate fundamental issues of the Christian faith. Academician Ioan Aurel Pop helps us, in this interview, to better understand the historical context that led to the convening of this Council by Emperor Constantine the Great and the impact it had on the life of the Church.
