Summary/Abstract: In a polemic with Spengler on the genesis of the West, Constantin Noica proposes as the “birth certificate” of Europe the Council of Nicaea (325 AD) which precisely formulated the Christological dogma. The Council of Nicaea is the genetic act of Europe through the logical crystallization of the Christological dogma: the divine exit from Greece and the human exit from Judea. It is like a reconciliation of the finite and the Infinite, civilizationally formulated as the unity of Athens and Jerusalem, of reason and faith. Modernity, however, destroyed this synthesis.
