Summary/Abstract: Establishing a common date for the celebration of Easter has been a major concern of the Church since the first Christian centuries, given the theological and ecclesial importance of this holiday. In the first three centuries, the diversity of practices regarding the date of Easter, determined by local traditions and different interpretations of the apostolic tradition, generated significant controversies and the risk of schisms within Christian communities. The First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea (325) addressed this issue, consecrating the Alexandrian Paschal Canon, according to which Easter must be celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox, avoiding the coincidence with the Jewish Passover. Although this decision aimed at standardizing the date of Easter, its uniform application was not fully achieved, differences persisting over time due to divergences related to the use of the Julian and Gregorian calendars. Currently, the desire to establish a common date for Christian Easter remains a current ecumenical objective, but the complexity of the calendar issue and the differences in liturgical tradition make achieving this unity a difficult process, but essential for the common witness of Christianity.
