Summary/Abstract: This essay provides rough language analysis of Ciceroʹs correspondence, referring only to Books 1 and 2 of his letters to Atticus. It underlines the existence of different “language levels” as a result of Ciceroʹs extensive education and literary engagement on one hand, and the intimacy and spontaneity of the occasion on the other. Thus we frequently find delicate puns or rhetorical figures and common everyday language in the same paragraph.
