Summary/Abstract: Transitivity - a change in the owner/possessor of a thing (even if temporary) - was identified as the most important semantic feature that could be the basis for constructing a broad definition of fant. In addition, non-universal but cross-sectional features were identified in relation to the different meanings that make up the polysemy of the word: value, fineness and implicitness. Regardless of the perspective of a synthetic description of meaning, exemplary innovative uses of the word were discussed, which confirm its metaphorical potential, also in terms of abstract references. Despite the approach that supports monosemy, the article proposed a meaning distinct from the whole family of related meanings of fant, in the general Polish language, hitherto unlisted in dictionaries (except the Warsaw Dictionary): 'something that is a problem'. This meaning is realised not only within the stabilised phrases co z tym fantem zrobić and coś z tym fantem zrobić, but also in other similar constructions, usually containing the expression z fantem, attested in the more casual variety of the Internet, e.g. Pogódź się z tym fantem!; Jak będzie z tym fantem?; Jeszcze powalczę z tym fantem.
